Nanded Gurudwara
Nanded is home to one of the sacred places in Sikhism, known as Takhat Sri Hazur Sahib Gurudwara. This isn’t just any ordinary place-Takht Sri Hazur Sahib is one of the five sacred takhts (seats of authority), also known as Panj Takhat in Sikhism.
Historical Significance:
This Gurudwara was built by Maharaja Maharaja Ranjit Singhji, The great Ruler of Punjab, between 1830 to 1839 A.D. This is the place where the 10th and final living sikh Guru, Guru Gobind Singh Ji, spent his last days in 1708. Inside the Gurudwara contains the mortal remains of the 10th Guru.
Who Was Guru Gobind Singh Ji?
Guru Gobind Singh Ji (1666–1708) was the tenth and last human Sikh Guru. He was son of Guru Tegh Bahadur. A visionary spiritual leader, philosopher, and warrior, he was appointed as the leader of the Sikhs at the age of nine.
His major contributions were–
Establishing the Khalsa Panth in 1699 and
Declaring Guru Granth Sahib, the holy scripture of Sikhism, as the eternal Guru
What are Takhts?
In Sikhism, Takhts are seats of authority and power that hold both spiritual and temporal significance. They’re places where the teachings and values of the Sikh Gurus are preserved, and where important decisions that impact the Sikh community are made.
There are Five Takhts in Sikhism- (Your Spiritual Travel Bucket List!)
1) Akal Takht Sahib (Amritsar, Punjab):
-Chief center of Sikhism
-Situated inside Golden Temple complex in Amritsar
-Social and Political headquarters for the Sikh community
-First Takhat established by Sri Guru Hargobind Sahib Sri Guru Hargobind Sahib in 1609
2) Takht Sri Keshgarh Sahib (Anandpur Sahib, Punjab):
-The birthplace of the Khalsa Panth, where Guru Gobind Singh Ji created the Khalsa in 1699
3) Takht Sri Damdama Sahib (Bathinda, Punjab):
-Also called the Kashi of the Sikhs
– Damdama means a place to have a break and rest
– Guru Gobind Singh Ji stayed here after fighting battles against Mughal atrocities
– Guru Gobind Singh prepared the revised and authentic version of the Adi Granth which is now being honored by the Sikhs as Guru Granth Sahib in 1705.
4) Takht Sri Patna Sahib, also known as Sri Harmandir Sahib (Patna, Bihar):
-Here Sri Guru Gobind Singh was born in 1666 and spent his early childhood
– Also visited by Sri Guru Nanak and Sri Guru Tegh Bahadur
5) Takht Sri Hazur Sahib (Nanded, Maharashtra):
– Guru Gobind Singh Ji, spent his last days in 1708. Inside the Gurudwara contains the mortal remains of Guru Gobind Singh Ji.
How to Visit Takhat Sachkhand Gurudwara Nanded?
By Road: Nearest bus stand: Nanded Bus Stand. From there, take an auto-rickshaw (approx. ₹20) to the Gurudwara.
By Air: Nearest airport: Nanded Airport (NDC), about 5-6 km away. Hire a taxi or auto-rickshaw to reach the Gurudwara.
