Murudeshwar is a town in Uttar Kannada district of Karnataka and lies on the beach of Laccadive Sea or Lakshadweep Sea. The temple here is famous for its huge 123-foot statue of Lord Shiva. The temple is very popular tourist and pilgrim site.

 

Raja Gopura

While entering the temple you can see a grand Gopura (Tower) called as Raja Gopura. This is 209 ft tall and has 18 floors inside it. You can take an elevator to reach top and see beautiful views of the area around the temple.

 

The Shiva Statue and Cave

The main attraction here is the 123 ft statue of lord Shiva. Below the statue, there’s a cave. Inside the cave, there are statues that tell the story of Ravana. This makes your visit more exciting. Entrance fee for cave is Rs.20.

 

Activities

This temple is near Murudeshwar Beach, a great place to relax and enjoy the sea. Water sports like scuba diving can be done at Netrani Island, the nearest island. You can enjoy various water activities and see colorful marine life.

 

Temple Timings and accommodation:

The temple opens at 6 a.m. There is also a luggage counter near the temple where you can leave your bags for just Rs.20. There are many hotels and rooms nearby if you want to stay overnight.

 

How to Get There

The temple is close to the Murudeshwar Railway Station, just 2 to 2.5 kilometers away. You can take an auto rickshaw from the station to the temple, or if you prefer, you can walk there.
